Dr. Basant Kumar Misra, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery & Gamma Knife Surgery, is one of our leading Neurosurgeons and has been attached to P. D. Hinduja National Hospital & MRC since 1995.
Earlier to joining Hinduja Hospital, he was Professor (Addl.), Dept. of Neurosurgery Sree Chitra Thirunal Institute of Medical Sciences & Technology, Trivandrum.
Under his guidance P. D. Hinduja National Hospital & MRC was the first hospital in Asia to acquire Gamma Knife technology. Dr. B. K. Misra has many ‘1sts’ credited to him. He was the 1st in India to perform Gamma Knife Radiosurgery. He was the 1st surgeon in the world to perform Computer Guided Aneurysm surgery.
Dr. Misra was the 1st in India to perform an Awake Craniotomy. Dr. B. K. Misra’s expertise in Neurosurgical Patient Care include Acoustic Neuroma Surgery, Vascular Neurosurgery (Aneurysm, AVM), Gamma Knife Radiosurgery, Skull Base Surgery , Computer Guided Neurosurgery, Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery, Key Hole Spine Surgery, Awake Craniotomy, Epilepsy Surgery and Complex Brain & Spine Disorder.
Dr. Misra recently organized the highly successful 6th Asian Conference of Neurological Surgeons in the month of January 2006 which was inaugurated by the Governor of Maharashtra, Shri S.M. Krishna at the Grand Hyatt Santacruz. The inauguration was presided over by Shri S.P. Hinduja, Chairman Hinduja Group and Dr. Jacques Brotchi, President, World Federation Neurosurgical Society (WFNS), was the Chief Guest. The 6th ACNS under the stewardship of Dr. B.K. Misra conducted a full day WFNS Education course with brilliant lecturers from 12 countries. This is also the first time that in any conference in India or in the ACNS that 5 hands on workshops and 3 Live surgery sessions were held.
