Critical Care Nursing Course Report 2011
(16th Batch - SEPT 2010 to APRIL 2011)
The Critical Care Nursing (CCN) Course was conducted from, 14th September 2010 to 11th April 2011. This course prepares nurses to function effectively in various Intensive Care Units, Cath lab and AKD.
The major subjects taught in the course were:
- Comprehensive Nursing IA: Comprised of the Respiratory and Cardiovascular system. The medical and nursing management was taught by - Dr. K.Bajan, Dr. A.Hegde, Ms. L. Michael, Ms. S.Vargheses and Senior staff nurses from ICU.
- Comprehensive Nursing IB: Comprising of other systems like CNS, Renal, GI and other topics were taken by Dr. C.Sankhla, Dr. M.Sankhe, Dr. A.Tibrewala, Dr.V.Shetty, Dr. R.Soman, Dr. J.Kothari, Dr. S.Singh, Dr. A.Deshpande, Dr. S.Kharnare and Dr. D.Desai with their Associate consultants. Where as Nursing Staffs coordinated nursing management.
- Comprehensive Nursing IIA: Pediatrics Nursing: The responsibility was shared by Dr. S.Udani, Dr. S.Prabhu, Dr. A.Gadkar, Pediatric Registrars and the PICU nurses.
- Comprehensive Nursing IIB: Basics of Research were taught by Ms. D.John.
Nurses obtained the experience of nursing patients who have undergone major invasive surgeries, or critically ill with multiple organ failure and accident / trauma patients. They were taught about the skill to nurse patients at risk for life threatening conditions. These nurses, now, can assess and monitor patients closely to identify subtle changes in patient's condition that warrant immediate intervention. They are also now able to tend critically ill patients, who are medically unstable, require constant cardiac and respiratory monitoring and continuous adjustments of treatments. Critical care nurses are now able to interpret, integrate, and respond to a wide array of clinical information.
33 nurses who successfully undertook the course were certified and meritorious nurses who achieved outstanding grades include the following:

CORN 2011 Report
Comprehensive Operating Room Nursing Course Report 2011
(10th Batch, FEB – August 2011)
The Comprehensive Operating Room Nursing and Management (CORNM) Course was conducted from February
2011- Aug 2011. This course is to prepare nurses to function effectively in various operating rooms and specialty areas like Recovery Room, CSSD, Minor OT, Gamma Knife and GI Endoscopies.
The major subjects in the course were:
- Comprehensive Nursing PAPER I: Comprised of the Foundation of CORN.
These topics were mainly taught up by Ms.M.Thomas, Other Senior nurses and coordinated by Ms.R.Jayes from the OT.
- Comprehensive Nursing PAPER II: Comprised of mainly 2 subjects, Techniques in OR and Multidisciplinary comprehensive nursing which comprises of super specialties like CNS, Renal, GI, Cardiac surgeries, Organ transplant, pediatric surgeries etc. These topics were taken by Dr. M.Sankhe, Dr. A.Tibrewala, Dr. V.Shetty, Dr. S.Shah, Dr. K.Pandey, Dr. L.Murad, and Dr. S.Sagade with their team of doctors. The nursing responsibilities were taught by the OT head nurses.
- Comprehensive Nursing PAPER III: Comprised of OR Administration and Basics in Research, Knowledge regarding OR administration was disseminated by Dr. S.Iyer, Ms. M.Thomas and her team of senior OR nurses, Ms. D.John taught basics of Research.
The nurses underwent a multidisciplinary educational program providing exposure in specialized and complex surgical procedures.
