Dr. Asha Kapadia is a leading Medical Oncologist of India, has been attached to P.D. Hinduja National Hospital & Medical Research Centre, Mumbai since 1987.
Dr. Kapadia is a pioneering oncologist, trained under famous Lasker award winner Dr. Robert Good, at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), New York, USA. She was involved in cancer cell research, specialized in cancer patient care like bone marrow transplantation and published numerous papers in indexed journals. While at MSKCC, she became a youngest faculty member of most prestigious cancer center of the world.
She returned to India after spending 10 academic years in USA with a dream to set up an international standard cancer care center. After years of perfecting suitable protocols her department was ranked by peers first in Oncology care services in Mumbai among the private institutes of India (6 months ago published in India Today). Today she is a Founder President of Bombay Oncology Association.
Involved as Head of Oncology at P.D. Hinduja National Hospital & Medical Research Centre, she has developed from very inception a state-of-the-art oncology department introducing several pioneering techniques for cancer care. Treating over 500 patients a month, she is a formidable force in fight against cancer. Team work and multidisciplinary approach are the essence of oncology department. Radiation, medical and surgical oncology experts work in tandem under her leadership. Thus tumour board meeting established by her brings all expertise together under one roof to make joint decision for each patient.
She was instrumental in introducing volunteer core group in India to provide holistic approach to patient care and also the teaching programme leading to Diplomate National Board in oncology degree. A special feature is ‘Rose Day’ when well known personalities from city spend quality time with cancer patients. Breast cancer survivors group – MAHEK was established in February 2003 by her.

She as Head of Department of Medicine goes beyond co-ordination and embarks on new frontiers of advancement in various fields of medicine to guide future course activities in the hospital. She is a Chairperson of Patient Care Committee at Hinduja Hospital.
She has always been a topper in her academic career and continues her intellectual pursuits with equal zeal, writing papers, training students and keeping tab on international advancement by attending and lecturing at various conferences in India and abroad. Her deep interest in cancer in women and agony of early menopause lead her to become first founder member of Indian Menopause Society (IMS) in 1995 and President of IMS in 2006.

PERSONAL INTERESTS
A keen sportsperson at school level, she was finalist in Annual Table Tennis championship. Dr. Kapadia continues her interest in sports by attending events such as US open Tennis Tournament whenever possible while she travels for conferences.
Perhaps her most exquisite talent lies in her long love for Art. Beginning at school level where she won awards in drawing, she continues to draw abstract landscapes as a hobby. She owns several original works of well known painters such as Tyeb Mehta, Gieve Patel, Atul Dodhia, Bhupen Khaker and Nalini Malani. These were acquired during her personal rapport with these well known artists today. However her priceless possession is a 110 years old Rajasthani miniature depicting Havali of Sreenathji.
In similar vain she studied Bharat Natayam and continues to attend concerts in classical dance in India and modern dance in America & Europe. She enjoyed a personal rapo with our most creative dancer Chandralekha.
