Dr. Bhalerao is not only a renowned surgeon but also a multitalented person.
He is the Director Medical Projects & Planning and Consultant Gastroenterology & Liver Diseases at Hinduja Hospital. He has previously been Professor and Head of Department of Surgery, KEM Hospital. He has also the Founder Hospital Infection Society, India.

He is involved in Marathi Theatre and has been honoured as President All India Marathi Natya Sammelan in 1999, which is an award for Life Time Achievement in the field of Marathi stage and dramatic activities.

He has distinguished himself in Selfless Service in uplift of Marathi Stage Dramatics for 20 years, Service to Artists, Backstage workers, Marathi Theatre, etc.


PERSONAL INTERESTS

Dr.Bhalerao’s Institute Sahitya Sangh, has the unique distinction of being awarded the 1st National Prize in Drama in the year 1954 for the play ‘Bhaubandki’ by k. P. Khadilkar.

Dr. Bhalerao has been associated with Mumbai Marathi Sahitya Sangh, a Cultural institute, from 1941 onwards. He has been an active member of the Working Committee and its Chief Secretary for the last 10 years. The institute does social work in cultural sphere for the uplifting of the Marathi Language.

They staged the first Modified Musical based on the Tamasha ‘Honaji Bala’
Dr. Bhalerao also got together the 1st Marathi Troup to perform the Marathi adaptation of Bertold Bretsch’s ‘Caucasian Chowk Circle Play’ an Indo German Collaboration at the Berlin Festival in East Germany and Zurich. In reciprocation, the well known Sanskrit play based on Chanakya’s life was staged in Marathi and German by the German Troupe.
