Dr. Amit Abhyankar is a Consultant in Nuclear Medicine and PET-CT at P D Hinduja National Hospital & Medical Research Centre, Mumbai, with over 8 years of experience, and is a qualified Post Graduate Medical Teacher.

He has worked in private nuclear medicine centre - SPECT Lab in Pune as Consultant, nuclear medicine physician from Dec 2013 to Nov 2015.

He was worked as assistant professor (scientific officer – D) in radiation medicine Centre (BARC) for four years from Aug 2009 to Nov 2013.

He had participated and represented nation in Regional Training Course on Multi-Modality Approaches in the Diagnosis of Cardiovascular Diseases; organized by IAEA in Gunma Japan in April 2013.

He has vast experience in handling the largest Isolation Ward Facility for High Dose Radio-active Iodine (131I, 177Lu) Therapy and other radio-nuclide for the patients of Thyroid Carcinoma, metastatic bone pain palliation & various Neuro-Endocrine malignancies using PRRT.

He has sound knowledge in every aspect of high dose radioactive treatment planning from pre-treatment assessment, making treatment management decisions, post treatment evaluation and managing the patients in Isolation ward. He has gained uncommon ability in treating the difficult systemic metastases of thyroid and neuro­endocrine malignancies in patients with High dose radio-nuclide therapy in isolation ward using 131I, 131I-MIBG and 177Lu.

He has in-depth knowledge of radiation precaution and radiation safety related to various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

He specializes in Molecular imaging with extensive work since 2003 in various aspect of nuclear medicine dealing with cancers including lymphoma, breast cancer, lung cancer, bone and soft tissue cancers, cancers of head and neck, cancers of gastrointestinal tract and amongst others. He also specializes in imaging of benign conditions specifically Aortoarteritis / Takayasu disease, infections, fever of unknown origin. He has gained ample of experience using newer PET tracers like 68Ga-PSMA, 68Ga-Peptide for SSTR imaging. His expertise includes Nuclear Cardiology including FDG PET imaging for myocardial viability, Nuclear Neurology with special attention towards Epilepsy, Nuclear Nephrology, Pediatric Nuclear Imaging and various other general Nuclear Medicine Procedures.

He was actively involved in Training Program of postgraduate diploma courses conducted at Radiation Medicine Centre for medical students (D.R.M.) and technologist course for basic science students (D.M.R.I.T.). This involves delivering lectures, conducting seminars, joint clinics and appropriately guiding and teaching the students in the OPD and therapy ward. He had co-Guided one DRM trainee every year for their thesis/ dessertaion for the diploma course from 2009 to 2013.

He is a qualified post graduate Medical Teacher as per the Eligibility Qualifications criteria of Teachers, in accordance with the National Board of Examinations India for medical graduates undergoing training for post graduate specialization (DNB) in Nuclear Medicine. He is part of the faculty conducting Post Graduate training programme for Medical Graduates in the speciality of Nuclear Medicine recognized by the National Board.
