Products of conception
Evaluation of the causes of fetal losses is becoming more important for two reasons, firstly, decrease in the average family size and secondly, delay in maternal age at first conception. Analysis of abortus material for fetal karyotype has shown that 50% of early fetal losses are due to chromosomal factors. Genetic and histopathologic study of fetal wastage help towards estimating recurrence risk and management for future pregnancies.
- Chromosome analysis: Tissue culture establishment and karyotyping of Products of conception.
- Aneuploidy FISH panel (chromosomes 13, 18, 21, X and Y): Fluorescent In-Situ Hybridization (FISH) :Fluorescent In-Situ Hybridization (FISH) is the latest technique in the field of cytogenetics. The advantages of using FISH technique is great in prenatal testing as it provides rapid information of chromosome abnormalities in urgent situations and also helps in aneuploidy analysis on prenatal specimens in uncultured cells or when there is a culture failure.FISH analysis is performed on various sample types and tissues.
