27 February, 2026

Mumbai, 27 February 2026: The Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu inaugurated a nationwide humanitarian healthcare mission “Saving Lives. Building a Healthier Bharat”, by P. D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre, at a ceremonial function held at Lok Bhavan (Raj Bhavan), Mumbai.

The ceremony was graced by the Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra, Shri Acharya Devvrat, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis and the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Smt. Sunetra Pawar, along with distinguished guests from government, medical and other sectors.

Established in 1951 by Shri Parmanand Deepchand Hinduja, P. D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre was founded on the belief that health and education are fundamental rights of every individual. Guided by his principle, “My Dharma is to work, so that I can give,” the institution began as a modest outpatient clinic serving refugees and economically vulnerable communities in the years following Independence. Over the decades, it has grown into one of India’s leading multi-specialty tertiary care institutions while remaining not-for-profit and committed to equitable healthcare.

“Saving Lives. Building a Healthier Bharat” is a year-long national commitment. Through this initiative, the hospital will extend outreach to districts across India, conduct health camps, and support meritorious MBBS students from economically weaker sections enrolled in government medical colleges. The programme will be implemented across various states in India.

A key component of the mission is Swasth Yuva, Viksit Bharat as envisioned by Hon. PM Modi, focused on adolescent health through structured awareness and screening camps promoting early disease detection and preventive education. This will also include establishment of Permanent Adolescent Health Centers in partner schools offering sustained counselling, mental health support, reproductive and menstrual health guidance, nutritional advice and confidential consultations.

The “Saving Lives. Building a Healthier Bharat” initiative will also deploy medically equipped mobile vans to provide primary healthcare services for urban underserved communities and undertake large-scale public awareness efforts on preventive health, lifestyle diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, stroke, women’s health and organ donation.

Shri Ashok P. Hinduja, Chairman, P.D. Hinduja Hospital & MRC said, “As we celebrate 75 years of the hospital, this is more than a diamond jubilee it is a national moment to reflect on how India has moved from post-Independence medical scarcity to today’s demand for advanced tertiary care, genomics and preventive health which is our priority. We have provided treatment support to over 10 Million patients, over 45 million lab tests performed with patients from 59 countries, and rural outreach to 350,000 individuals till date. The next 75 years we are focused on scaling impact, strengthening India’s health architecture and contributing meaningfully to the vision of a Viksit Bharat. With blessings of Hon’ble President, we will be running a multi-state, pan-India programme to build healthy citizens. My sincere thanks to the Honourable President, Honourable Governor, Honourable CM, and Honourable Deputy CM for gracing this occasion.”

With the launch of this campaign, P. D. Hinduja Hospital reaffirms its commitment to compassionate service, academic excellence, ethical medical practice, and inclusive growth, strengthening its role in building a healthier Bharat.
