1 October, 2021

Mumbai, 1st October 2021: Extending its legacy of being an early adopter in technology, P. D. Hinduja Hospital & MRC is launching Mind Maze, one of its kind India’s first virtual reality-based neuro rehabilitation therapy for patients with neurological problems, such as that caused by a stroke. This breakthrough technology will bring in a paradigm shift in the way rehabilitation is delivered to patients.

This virtual reality based therapy is designed through engaging activities each with increasing levels of difficulty that will help rehabilitation of upper limb, hands, trunk and lower limb. The technology enables real time compensatory feedback monitoring the quality of movement with full body motion capture through optical markerless technology. MindMotion is fun for patients, and completely customizable to each individual’s needs and progress, helping to improve patient engagement and adherence to therapy. With Mind Maze, within a typical 1-hour therapy session patients can perform 500 skilled movement repetitions of the upper-limb, significantly higher than the 20-30 movement repetitions typically made during a typical rehab session.

During the inauguration, Dr. Charulata Sankhla, Consultant Neurologist, P. D. Hinduja Hospital & MRC said, “Mind Maze is a one-stop comprehensive treatment facility for patients who require neurological rehabilitation. With substantial research indicating that exercise is an effective way of engaging and training cognitive and physical function through movement, Mind maze is ideally suited as an intervention for neurological diseases requiring the training of residual cognitive and physical disability ”.

In a brief statement, Dr. Shivangi Borkar, Head of the Department of Physiotherapy, P. D. Hinduja Hospital & MRC said, “We are very excited to make this advanced treatment option available for patients in Mumbai, taking neuro-rehabilitation treatment one notch higher. With this one of its kind facility in India, we aim to provide solutions ideally suited for patients as an intervention for neurological diseases.”

This evidence-driven therapy and assessment portfolio powered by medical-grade software with tailored interactive content and proprietary peripherals give patients control of their arm, enabling them to move and train again. Further, this facility will have engaging therapy adapted for individual patients based on their level of impairment, designed to help them reach their rehabilitation goals.
