Rheumatology

Rheumatology deals with joints, soft tissues, autoimmune diseases and heritable connective tissue disorders. A rheumatologist is a specialist doctor who diagnoses and treats: arthritis – where joints are painful, swollen and stiff. Other musculoskeletal conditions - which affect bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments as well as joints.

The Department of Rheumatology offers state-of-the-art infrastructure, unsurpassed range of treatment options and multidisciplinary expertise to treat cases from the simplest yet often missed to the most complex of cases.

Rheumatic diseases consist of more than 100 conditions, including all forms of arthritis (e.g., Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis), certain autoimmune diseases (e.g., Systemic Lupus Erythematosus), and musculoskeletal pain disorders. Rheumatic diseases can affect virtually any part of the body. They are usually associated with inflammation (swelling and redness), almost always accompanied by pain and have symptoms that can have a profound effect on the ability to perform daily activities.

Some of the common problems include:

  • Rheumatoid arthritis/Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Scleroderma
  • Ankylosing Spondylitis
  • Psoriatic Arthritis
  • Polymyositis / Dermatomyositis
  • Sarcoidosis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Collagen Vascular Diseases
  • MTCD (Mixed Connective Tissue Diseases) and many more
