Dr. Rajaram Amrut Bhalerao -
The Guiding Marshal

Dr. Rajaram Amrut Bhalerao

If one happens to browse through the archived photographs at P. D. Hinduja Hospital, a picture of one particular man can be spotted in several of them; some giving lectures, some with the top management of Hinduja Group, while some at medical camps organized. He is none other than Dr. Rajaram Amrut Bhalerao, an octogenarian who has now been associated with the hospital for almost three decades now.

Dr. Bhalerao as he is affectionately called by all staff, although holds the position of Director – Strategy & Medical Planning at the hospital, his advice is sought in each step towards the progress. Last month, when Dr Bhalerao turned sweet 80 the hospital staff led by trustee Ms. Vinoo Hinduja gave him a surprise party and presented him with a collage of photographs from down the memory lane to the latest.

When asked about the experience of being associated with the hospital for so long, he said, "The one thing that needs to be commended about this hospital is the level of planning and its execution in a short time. There is a transparent flow of information from the top management to the lower level and so on. It's a family like atmosphere in this hospital."

Dr. Bhalerao has not only excelled in his medical field; he is also a revered name in the Marathi theatre circuit. He first started acting on stage in 1942. "I was part of the group that brought its first dramatic prize through Mumbai Marathi Sahitya Sangh as children. From there on, my involvement with theatre rose like my late father Dr. A N Bhalerao who had a passion for theatre. Being deeply involved in theatre, I was determined to spend as much time as possible for survival, growth and make Marathi language and drama more and more popular. All these efforts and my total involvement with Mumbai Marathi Sahitya Sangh ultimately was appreciated by a larger dramatic society and was appointed as President of the Natya Sammelan, which was held at Pimpri and was graced by Mr. Sharad Pawar. However, I look at this not as my contribution alone but also efforts and dedicated work done by my father, mother and other colleagues from Mumbai Marathi Sahitya Sangh."
