Dr. Barun Kumar Nayak, shoulders the responsibility as Head of Department of Ophthalmology at P. D. Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai. He has completed successful 24 years with P. D. Hinduja Hospital; he joined us during December 1987. He completed MBBS from Patna Medical College and MD (Ophthalmology) from AIIMS, New Delhi. He has done his DO from the Royal College of Surgeons, London and is Fellow Retina and Vitreous Surgery from Lion's Eye Institute, Perth, Western Australia.

Dr. Nayak works with a belief of practicing ophthalmology ethically in the best interest of the patients and providing ophthalmic care of the highest standards, in all fields of ophthalmology.

Dr. Nayak is presently practicing General Ophthalmology ranging from I.O.L. Implants Surgery, Phaco-emulsification, Laser, Retina & Vitreous Surgery, Squint, Glaucoma to Corneal Surgery. He holds special interest in Phaco-emulsification, Laser Surgery and Glaucoma.

Dr. Nayak has had the privilege of working for specialty clinics, namely Retina clinic – dealing with surgery of Retinal & Vitreaous, Squint and Orthoptic Clinic, Medical Ophthalmology Clinic – dealing with medium retina cases including extensive uses of fundus fluorescencein angiography and lasers, Uvea Clinic & Cornea Clinic

Dr. Nayak is the second Vice President of Maharashtra Ophthalmological Society and has been Past – Editor for Indian Journal of Ophthalmology. He has been associated with various Ophthalmology associations and has been past- editor to many renowned journals of Ophthalmology. He has proactively and successfully conducted international/national conferences, talks, lectures and workshops, to promote education in the field of Ophthalmology. He has been a teacher and has given lectures to graduate, postgraduate medical students, and general practitioners.

He has authored books, presented papers and participated as faculty at various national and international conferences. He also has various national and international publications to his account. He also headed various nationally and internationally acclaimed research activities.

He has been awarded with various orations and awards within the Ophthalmology fraternity. He also had the honor of National Merit Scholarship in all years of MBBS. He was also awarded Certificate of Merit in Anatomy dissection competition during 1971-72 at Patna Medical College.

He has been devoted to community service and has served the needy in the remote areas.

He has been always interested in sports and played cricket at school level. He has shown prowess for a sport as uncommon as boating by winning the Manner of the Individual Boating Championship in 1972 in Patna Medical College. He has been awarded several prizes in various sports like Volleyball, Football, Hockey, Cricket, Rowing, Carom, Table Tennis and Athletics. He also has various NCC Certifications to his account.

He was appointed as Medical Officer of Patna University Mountaineering Team in 1977 which successfully climbed unto the height of 18,000 feet on Kinchenghiou ranges in the Himalayas.

He has also pursued courses in German Language and passed "GRUNDSTUFE I AND II/I" conducted by "MAX MULLER BHAVAN" New Delhi in 1982.
